Where the Music Began
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Some of my earliest memories are of sitting beside my grandmother, listening to her sing old melodies. She once told me,
“Music is like sunlight. It can warm a person’s heart.”
I was too young to understand the depth of those words, but I understood how music made me feel.
During my high school years in Canada, I was often invited to perform at school and community events. After a performance, a woman told me she had cried through one of my songs, but somehow felt lighter afterwards.
That moment stayed with me. It was the first time I truly understood that music could do more than entertain.
Later, my life took me into medicine, natural medicine, and eventually, therapeutic music. I became fascinated by the growing body of research surrounding music, emotion, stress, memory and physiological responses. For me, it created a meaningful connection between two important parts of my life: health and music.
My own journey has not always been easy. There was a period when I reached a place of profound hopelessness and felt that my life had come to an end. Fortunately, I was given another chance to live.
That experience became an important part of who I am as an artist.
Over the years, listeners from different parts of the world have shared deeply personal stories with me. Some told me that my music helped them through depression, loneliness or loss. Others said that hearing my story gave them courage during a difficult season. These messages remain among the most meaningful parts of my journey.
They remind me why I continue to write, record and perform.
Not every song has to change the world, but if a song can sit beside someone during a difficult night, bring comfort, restore a little hope, or simply make someone feel less alone, then I believe it has already found its meaning.
That is the kind of music I hope to continue creating: music with emotion, purpose and humanity.
And as I move forward, I hope to keep carrying the lesson my grandmother gave me all those years ago
To let music become sunlight, and to keep passing that light on.
