Project Description
A love that defied tradition. A legend that transcends time.
Inspired by one of China’s most beloved romantic legends, The Butterfly Lovers brings a timeless tale of love, sacrifice and destiny to the stage in a grand theatrical production. Following the success of Dream of the Red Mansion, Symphony Theatre Production unites 32 performers and an international creative team from China, Taiwan, the United States, Australia and Malaysia to reimagine this enduring classic.
Internationally acclaimed singer and actress Jessie Chung stars as Zhu Yingtai, alongside American director and actor Paul Lee as Liang Shanbo. They are joined by distinguished performers Isaac Cheah (The Last Tears), Terry Lim (The Dream of Red Mansions), John Lee (Tearless Sky) and Marcus Choot (Music Box).
Bringing ancient China to life, the production combines naturalistic staging, immersive 3D LED visuals, realistic sound effects, exquisite antique props and elegant period costumes. Traditional Chinese cultural elements, including Beijing Opera and martial arts, further enrich this spectacular theatrical experience.
Renowned American music producer John Lee has composed the theme song, Winding, and two interludes, First Sight and Promise Me, capturing the romance, longing and heartfelt emotions at the heart of this legendary love story.
Blending Chinese cultural heritage with theatrical artistry and contemporary stagecraft, The Butterfly Lovers invites audiences into a dreamlike world where love takes flight and legends live forever.
