(Kuala Lumpur) After four consecutive sold-out performances, the theatrical play Butterfly Lover continues to break records at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac). In an unprecedented achievement, the production staged two back-to-back performances in a single day, both of which were completely sold out.
Organized by Symphony Musical House, the two performances at klpac attracted over a thousand audience members. After the first show ended, the cast quickly prepared for the second performance just half an hour later. Despite the intense schedule, Jessie Chung and the entire team powered through without complaints!
According to a spokesperson for Symphony Musical House, all 500 tickets for the 3 PM show were sold out, yet demand remained high. After discussions with the production team, they decided to add a second performance at 7:30 PM, taking on the challenge of back-to-back performances. To their surprise, within just one week of sales, all 500 tickets for the evening show were also snapped up.
For this rendition of Butterfly Lover, Jessie Chung not only poured her heart out on stage with an emotional performance but also ensured a high-quality production. The stage featured exquisite ancient-style props, and LED backgrounds were seamlessly integrated to enhance the immersive experience with the latest technology. The play also incorporated elements of traditional Chinese culture, including Sichuan opera face-changing, Peking opera, Chinese martial arts, and poetic verses, celebrating the rich heritage of Chinese traditions. This cultural depth even attracted travel agencies to bring tour groups to watch the show.
The Butterfly Lover production by Symphony Musical House is a charity initiative in collaboration with MNA (Malaysia Natural Medicine Association) to raise funds for cancer research. The first eight shows have already sold out, while additional performances on April 15, April 22, and April 30 are currently available for ticket purchase.
