From Fan to Stage Partner: JessC Performs ‘Dia’ with Fauziah Latiff

KUALA LUMPUR: What began as admiration from afar has turned into a remarkable full-circle moment for Malaysian singer Jessie Chung, who recently fulfilled a long-held dream by performing the song Dia alongside its original singer, Fauziah Latiff, on the same stage.

JessC described the experience as deeply meaningful, noting that she had once performed the song herself during a solo concert roughly a decade ago.

“I’ve admired Fauziah Latiff since I was young, and Dia has always been one of my favourite songs. About ten years ago, I even performed the song during my own solo concert,” she said.

“This time, I personally invited her to sing it as a duet with me. I never imagined she would agree. It is a great honour because she has never performed Dia as a duet with any other singer before.

“I can only say that everything about that moment felt truly beautiful.”

She was speaking after the My Style Concert, held recently at the Mega Star Arena.

JessC added that following the success of their earlier duet Tak Terpisah, she hopes to continue collaborating with Fauziah in the future, possibly recording a new song for either Chinese New Year or Hari Raya.

A bigger and better concert

Reflecting on the organisation of the My Style concert, JessC explained that the second edition of the show was produced with improved quality following the success of her earlier performance at the Arena of Stars in May.

She admitted that the most demanding aspect of preparation was the choreography.

“The biggest challenge was the dancing. It may look simple, but it actually requires a great deal of stamina,” she said.

To prepare physically, JessC incorporated sports into her training routine, including table tennis.

“I trained for at least four hours a day. I used to represent Queensland, Australia in table tennis, but I had to take a break after suffering an injury last October.

“I’m still recovering, which is why I have to be careful when dancing. But towards the end of the concert, I tried to give my very best, especially during the performance of Sinaran.”

Earlier, the My Style concert ran for approximately three and a half hours, during which JessC performed 40 songs spanning multiple languages, including Mandarin, Malay, English, Japanese and Cantonese.
